Over 100 Vegetable Products Called Back Over Listeria Concerns

Over 100 vegetable products have been recalled by the Mann Packaging Co. sold in Canada and the United States for probable listeria contamination. The call back is in retort to a notice by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and the Food and Drug Administration for likely infectivity of Listeria monocytogenes. The products are labeled a “Best If Enjoyed By” time of Oct 11, 2019, to Nov 16, 2019. The boxed vegetables were retailed under a number of brand names, comprising HEB, Mann’s, Hungryroot, Del Monte, O Organics, Marketside, Sysco, Trader Joe’s, and Signature Farms.

However, as per the statement of the firm, there have been no reports of sicknesses related to these products up to now. A pathogenic bacterium, Listeria monocytogenes, has the potential to cause listeriosis. The infection can result in headaches, fevers, nausea, stiffness, diarrhea, and abdominal pain in fit individuals. Nevertheless, listeriosis can be deadly for some individuals.

Adults more than 65 years old, individuals with compromised immune systems, and expecting females as well as their newborns are the most at risk, as per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). As per this report, a projected 1,600 individuals are infected every year by listeriosis and around 260 pass away. Mann Packaging stated the consumers should dispose of any impacted products. If consumers have any queries, they should get in touch with the firm at 1-844-927-0707 or drop a mail at consumers@mannpacking.com.

On the other end, a voluntary recall of 2 bulk bins and 2,297 cases of apples has been issued by a Traverse City, Michigan-situated agricultural cooperative with cultivators in Central, North, and South America, North Bay Produce. The varieties of apples that are affected include Jonathan, Red Delicious, McIntosh, Jonamac, Fuji, and the uber-famous Honeycrisp. They can likely be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
